1.
John 10:28-29:
What conclusion would even a ten-year old Sunday School student reach about the eternal security of the believer after reading these simple promises?
2.
Mark 9:21-24:
a) Can you see the faith yet mixed with doubts expressed by the father of the child in this passage?
Yes
No
b) We are saved by exercising faith. It is not the strength of our faith that makes the difference but the strength of our Savior. When you have times of doubt, can you confess this to God with an assurance of his understanding and continual love?
Yes
No
3.
Romans 3:22-26:
What are the key words in this passage that should assure a believer’s heart of eternal salvation?
“Justified” (vs. 24) means to be declared righteous by God. This is something that happens when we trust Christ as our personal Savior. It is a declaration by God. It is a new position of eternal acceptance. The ground for our salvation is not the value of our faith but rather the value of the redemption by the blood of Christ. It is not “Did I have faith enough?” But rather “Did Jesus’ blood count enough to cancel out the guilt of my sins?”
4.
John 3:16; John 6:35; I John 1:7-10:
Is there any sin that is “unpardonable” or that the blood of Jesus Christ cannot cleanse away, according to these verses?
5.
Read
Matthew 12:15-32
carefully. When this “unpardonable sin” of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was mentioned by Jesus (vs. 31-32), it was during the culmination of a lengthy and hostile period of unbelief and rejection of Jesus while he was physically present on earth. The reference was not to an occasional or even a long-term lapse of faith sandwiched between periods of trust.
In our experience, those who worry most about having committed the “unpardonable sin” are highly dedicated people who once clearly understood the gospel and trusted Christ completely.
