Thank the Lord for His faithfulness. II Timothy 4:9-18. On the loneliness of Paul. The dependability of the Lord.

Paul writes to Timothy from prison where he is confined for preaching the Gospel. He has just charged Timothy to “preach the Word, to endure hardships, win souls, and fulfill his ministry”. He reminisces about his own life and looks forward to the joy of Christ’s return. Nevertheless, Paul is hurting inside. He is lonely and bored. What kept him going? Discover Paul’s source of strength.

Definition:

The ability to function with such stability and reliability that others can trust us to perform responsibly at all times

Good intentions are not enough.  People who make promises but don't follow through with them are unreliable. The dependable person keeps his/her promises, functions responsibly, and acts predictably. Dependable people have stable marriages and secure relationships.

The faithfulness of God is so great that we can totally rely upon Him to keep His Word.  The reason we trust God to keep His promises is because He has proven His faithfulness over and over. He is completely dependable, trustworthy, and responsible.  He has never forgotten a promise or neglected His children.

Dependability is a part of God’s essential nature and a character trait we ought always to emulate.
