Lord, thank you for dependable friends. Philippians 2:19-30. On the quality of Paul’s friends. The encouragement dependable friends provide.

The Lord Jesus is portrayed as a man of compassion toward others. We are encouraged to think like He thinks… “to look not only on our own things but also on the things of others.” He is the perfect example of a submissive mind. He was willing to be expended for the benefit of others and the glory of God. Two more examples of commitment and concern are given in the Scripture for today. Timothy and Epaphroditus are portrayed as Christ-like men upon whom Paul could depend.

Definition:

The ability to function with such stability and reliability that others can trust us to perform responsibly at all times

Good intentions are not enough.  People who make promises but don't follow through with them are unreliable. The dependable person keeps his/her promises, functions responsibly, and acts predictably. Dependable people have stable marriages and secure relationships.

The faithfulness of God is so great that we can totally rely upon Him to keep His Word.  The reason we trust God to keep His promises is because He has proven His faithfulness over and over. He is completely dependable, trustworthy, and responsible.  He has never forgotten a promise or neglected His children.

Dependability is a part of God’s essential nature and a character trait we ought always to emulate.
